Susan Wood passed away suddenly of natural causes on May 13, 2022, at the age of 52 in Houston, TX. The daughter of Leslie and the late Maureen Wood, Susan grew up in Andover, MA. She excelled in music, especially the trombone, and once had the honor of meeting and playing with Dizzy Gillespie. Susan attended the University of Connecticut, majoring in biology, and joined an environmental engineering firm upon graduation.
Susan was recognized as a leading expert in her field of carbon markets. She had more than 25 years’ experience specializing in the clean energy and environmental commodity markets. She joked about how she was one of the few women whose first job included wearing a hazmat suit. Since that notable beginning, she also worked for Enron, Element Markets, AgCert International, Dentons and was CEO of the methane capture project firm Sindicatum USA.
Over the past decade, she managed her own consulting firm, and developed several low carbon protocols that are officially registered with the American Carbon Registry.
Susan never met a stranger and had a superpower for bonding with people that made them feel as if they had known each other for years. She traveled the world for work and for pleasure, serendipitously meeting and connecting new friends with old to form one extensive community.
Susan became a mother to two amazing daughters, Savannah and Delaney Clemmons. She cherished the role of mother and was delighted to be with them out on the boat, listening to music cranked up to 11, or hitting the best neighborhood restaurant. They brought her so much joy and her presence in their lives will be missed.
In addition to her daughters, Susan is survived by her father Leslie Wood, her sister Helen Cunningham (husband Rob) and nephews Alistair and Logan of Los Angeles, CA, and her uncle Bill Wood (wife Jean) and cousins Kenneth, Andrew and John of Scotland.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held in Houston on June 5. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Lola’sLuckyDay.com or HoustonPetsAlive.org.
