Susan was born on October 3, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was the second daughter of Howard William and Margaret Arnold Mehigan. She lived in other states including Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. She graduated from high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico and went on to attend New Mexico State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
While working in Las Cruces, New Mexico, she met and dated Michael Ray Preston. The two were married on February 22, 1975 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. On October 5, 1976, their marriage was solemnized and sealed at the Mesa, Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1977 they moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to Michael’s family.
Susan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings within the church that helped bless the lives of others. Susan was passionate about teaching the youth and for many years taught 5th grade in Houston, Texas to prepare students for Junior High and beyond. She did many projects with her students including hatching and raising chicks from a local farmer. She also had a passion for music and sang alto in many choirs, an all-female Barbershop Quartet, performed musical theater, and would often bring her guitar along to play. She also supported her family in theater productions by doing makeup and sewing costumes. Susan started her own window treatment company and was a natural at floral arrangements. She was an amazing cook and baker and was always ready to share her knowledge and recipes with anyone who asked.
Susan is survived by her daughter Marguerite (Kenneth) McKell; her siblings Karen (Ken) Goetz, Joy (Cecil) Rice, and Howard Jesse (Debbie) Mehigan; and six grandchildren Lukas, Lillian, Bryson, Michael, Joshua, and Sierra. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Preston, her son Sean Preston, and her son David Preston.
A visitation for Susan will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068.
A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068.
A committal service will occur Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
