Stephen Douglas McCoy was born on August 3rd, 1949 in Dallas, Texas. Son of Walter Douglas McCoy and Marion Lavelle McCoy, he grew up in Lubbock, Texas. He attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1975. He met Karen McLennan during this time and they married in 1976. His career with Phillips Petroleum began in 1975 in Borger, Texas and later took him to Norway, Indonesia, The Philippines, Colorado, and Oklahoma, and back again. He made many contributions to the safety and success of the company over an impressive 37-year career. He valued education, honesty, and hard work. He was very proud of his family who survives him: Karen McCoy, wife of 36 years; siblings Kathy Barnes, Doug McCoy, and P.K. Crisp; daughter Allison Fleshman and her husband Bobby; daughter Valerie McGrath and her husband Kevin; and two granddaughters, Megan and Julia McGrath. He left this world peacefully, surrounded by family on August 28th.
