Shirley was born to Andrew and Mamie Knight Vinson, October 22, 1925, in Palestine, Texas. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1943 and started her career right away. She married Lee V. Bailey Sr. at St. Anne’s Catholic church in 1955, and they lived together in Houston, Texas. Together they raised two children.
She is preceded in death by her husband Lee V. Bailey, Sr. (1993), parents Andrew and Mamie Vinson, and sister Helen Boriskie. Survivors include sons Lee V. Bailey, Jr. (Vivian) and Robert A. Bailey (Becky). She is also survived by grandchildren Valerie Manguino, Vincent Manguino (Katie), Brooke Dies (Michael), and Jennifer Spring (Kevin); great grandchildren are Jena Hinton, Isa Hinton, Keira Spring, Hunter Manguino, and Dori Dies. She also leaves to cherish her memory; nieces Diane Murphy, Pat Cain and Linda Boriskie.
Shirley worked as a teletype operator for Southern Pacific railroad for over ten years and an administrator for Seiscom Delta for five years. She enjoyed arts, crafts, and especially painting and playing the piano. With her love for music, she loved to dance. She was also actively involved in St. Thomas More and other churches.
The family would also like to thank Sun Rose Adult Care Home in Houston for their special care.
A viewing is scheduled for November 27th, 6-8 PM, Forest Park Lawndale at 6900 Lawndale St., in Houston. The funeral will be on November 28th at 11 AM at Forest Park Lawndale with a reception to follow. Deacon Ola Branche will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to your religious affiliations.
