Sharon moved to San Antonio from Ft. Worth at an early age. She graduated from Sam Houston High School in San Antonio in 1965. After high school she met the love of her life, Robert Orland Cater and they were married on July 22, 1967. They had just celebrated 54 years of marriage.
They moved to Houston in 1967 and had two sons, Robert (Bobby) Orland Cater, Jr. and Randy Oneil Cater. She worked at Inwood Elementary School for 25 years until her retirement. She attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Houston for more than 40 years. Her hobbies and interests included attending craft shows, reading, and traveling with her husband Bob and friends, Wilbur and Eleanor Schunka, but most of all she liked spending time with her family and grandkids. One thing you couldn’t do was walk in her house without giving Nana a hug. Although she did not watch much television, when she did it was almost always The Price is Right or the Houston Astros.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Margie M. and Kenneth C. Broom; brother Craig Broom and his wife Donna Broom.
Those left to cherish her memory until they see her again in Heaven are her husband, Robert Orland Cater, Sr., sons, Robert (Bobby) Orland Cater, Jr., his wife Christina, Randy Oneil Cater, his wife Stacey; grandchildren, Austin, Lauren, Savannah, Megan, Johnathan, and Case; brother, Mark Broom and his wife Sylvia.
Services will be held Monday, August 9, 2021 at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. Visitation at 10:00 am, followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 am and Committal Service at Houston National Cemetery at 12:30 pm.
