Seamuis Matthew Mockler was born 24 November 1985 and passed unexpectedly in his sleep at age 38 on 17 December 2023. From the very start he was the most precious Michelin tire baby, watching the world around him with wide eyes and a smile. He was diagnosed very early with autism but it never stopped him from connecting with others or being one of the most observant but hilariously unfiltered men who ever lived. Seamuis had a smile, handshake, and a story for everyone, regardless of their station in life, and would very willingly give you the shirt off his back or the last cookie in the package. He was very conscientious and gave what was his absolute best to every endeavor. He attended Terrace Elementary, Spring Oaks Middle School, and proudly graduated from Spring Woods Senior High in 2004 before attending Houston Community College, receiving a Certificate in Horticulture Technology. He was a tuba player in the marching band, a valued Goodwill employee at the Swain Center until his program was discontinued, and a proud Eagle Scout in Troop #664.
Seamuis loved his family and every living creature and was a proud supporter of the Houston Zoo, NASA, the Astros, the Aeros, the Rockets (especially Yao Ming), the Houston Symphony, the United States military, and the Houston SPCA. He loved extravagant holiday decorations, Super Mario Bros, card games, Garfield, Pokémon, the Masked Singer, true crime shows, Mario Party, anime conventions, and enjoyed singing Elton John, ABBA, the Beatles, and Lady Gaga while playing Rock Band.
He is survived and greatly missed by his parents James Thomas and Isabel Christina Mockler and sisters Tracy Marie Mockler, Molly Theresa Mockler, Sarah Maria Mockler, and Desiree Veronica Jones. He was especially close to his brothers in law Aaron Hoover and Sean Gehrold and honorary brother John Pittinger. About his rescue Great Dane Kia, who was with him in his final moments, he repeatedly said “I love her like a sister” but would not confirm if she was the favorite sister or not. Tío Bobo also leaves behind nephew Mars and his nieces Christina, Aisling Zelda, and Gloria Rae, all of whom he adored and some of whom he helped raise, always ready with a homemade peach cobbler, Oreos, or Butterfingers.
Visitation will be at 5-8pm on Thursday January 4 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery at 13001 Katy Fwy, 77079. The family requests that visitation guests dress to celebrate Seamuis and be ready to party in his honor. We have assembled a playlist of some of his greatest hits. Costumes and cosplay welcome.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10am on Friday January 5 at St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at 10688 Shadow Wood Dr, 77043, followed by a procession past a few of his favorite neighborhood locations. Graveside services will then be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery with reception to follow in the main building.
The family extends an invitation to all who were fortunate enough to know Seamuis to all events. Please come as you are as Seamuis would not begrudge the attendance of even the loudest wiggliest child, being one himself a time or two.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Seamuis’s memory to Morgan’s Wonderland in San Antonio at http://tinyurl.com/DonateForSeamuis (please scroll down). Morgan’s Wonderland is an ultra-accessible theme park of inclusion where those of every ability and disability are able to have fun together and is the first of its kind in the world. To promote accessibility, it is free to attend for those with disabilities and relies on donations to operate. It was one of Seamuis’s favorite places to visit because it allowed him to be unapologetically himself in an accepting environment and also because the playground equipment was Seamuis-sized. He especially loved the water park, Morgan’s Inspiration Island. As he told the employees once, “I’m practically a regular here!”
Seamuis Matthew Mockler lived a very full life and never went a day without laughing. We will miss the kindest, most generous one of us all.
