The second of two daughters, Sandra Benita Newton was born to Peter and Brigida Newton on July 9, 1969, in St. Michael, Barbados. As an infant, along with her family they moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Sandra and her sister, Ana attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in Cambridge before their move to Houston, Texas. There, Sandra attended and graduated from Shotwell Middle School and Dwight D. Eisenhower High School in 1987.
Sandra was always an entrepreneur and started her company, The College Resource Center over 20 years ago, where she aided and mentored her clients in the college admission process. Here, she
felt so rewarded in helping to navigate her young clients on the options they have in determining their future. She loved what she did and loved her clients.
She was selfless with her time and resources to her family in helping to care for her elderly father and to her church family at St. Cyril of Alexandria. She was an active and will always be a member of the Legion of Mary, as well as an Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She has also been a member of the choir and an active member of the St. Cyril of Alexandria Parish community. She will always be an advocate for God in her afterlife.
She also gave of her time with the mentoring program, Collegiate Challenge in the Spring Branch Independent School District.
Sandra loved to travel and read and would always plan the next getaway.
She is survived by her father, Peter Newton and her sister, Ana Newton and a host of church family members from both St. Cyril of Alexandria and St. John Neumann. She leaves to celebrate her life, her relatives here in the United States as well as in Venezuela, Barbados, Canada, and England as well as friends who became just like family and those who were touched by her kindness along the way. She was blessed and will truly be missed.
Services for Sandra will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023 at St. Cyril of Alexandria, located at 10503 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77042. Rosary will begin at 9am followed by funeral services at 10:00am. Interment will be at Paradise North Cemetery.
