Born on the 3rd of June 1923, Ruth lived a long and eventful life full of friends, family and faith. She was born in Bakersfield, California, educated at the University of California at Berkley where she met and married the love of her life, Francis L. (Bud) Bryan. They were together 55 years until his passing in 2000. During those years they moved from California to Texas to New Orleans and back to Houston. They also traveled the world with many friends and enjoyed their years together.
After Bud passed Ruth realized she was not done yet. She moved to her condo across from St. Martins Episcopal where she was a member since 1961, built up her network of friends and set out on the next chapter of her life. At St. Martins she was active in the Saintly Stitchers Group, Opus, and worked in the library as a volunteer up until two weeks before her death. She loved her children and grandchildren and took particular joy in her great grandchildren.
She was independent, intelligent, gracious, stubborn, dressed beautifully even when not going out, had a great sense of humor, and hoped she would live forever.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Claudia Bryan Ward and husband Christopher, Locke Bryan and wife Camille, Grandchildren Frank Bryan and wife Jikja, Sidney Claire Baughman and husband Michael, Step Granddaughter Anna Ward Gounev, Great Grandchildren, Sora, Lara, Emery Ruth and Hemingway.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 2nd of July, at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
