Russell was born on July 31, 1939, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Victor and Helen (Greenawald) Hamm.
He graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. After completing ROTC in college, he served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserve, ending his Reserve service as a Captain.
Russell married Deborah Ann Chlanda on July 10, 1971, in St. Louis, Missouri. They lived in Katy since 1986 and were members of New Hope Presbyterian Church of Katy. He worked for most of his career in the natural gas industry, retiring from Enron in 1997. He enjoyed trains, country music, westerns, and spending time with his family.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 49 years. He leaves behind his daughter Sharon (Hamm) Van Poperin and son-in-law Ryan of Boerne, TX; and his sister-in-law, Paula (Chlanda) Kettler and brother-in-law, Irv, of Deland, FL.
The family would like to thank Bethel Place for caring for him during his final year and would also like to thank Fairmont Hospice.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 15th, from 11am-1pm at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home followed by the service at 1pm at Memorial Oaks.
Remembrances in the form of flowers can be directed to the funeral home, or the family requests that donations in Russell’s name be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
