Russell Lee Gilmore, 61, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023. Russell was born October 1, 1961, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Waltrip High School and then the IBEW apprenticeship program. Russell teamed with his brother Gregg at Better Lawns & More. Then, in 1991, Russell and his dad, Mel formed Gilmore Auto Sales specializing in light commercial work trucks, vans and specialty vehicles. Russell had a knack for finding good deals on used vehicles and together Russell and Mel built Gilmore Auto Sales into a successful dealership with many loyal customers.
Russell was a kind and generous person. He enjoyed spending time at Galveston Bay fishing, and he loved spending time with his family. Although Russell often appeared to be quiet and reserved, he had a mischievous streak and loved a good adventure. In high school, Russell and his friend Randy decided to go to Mexico for spring break – without telling their parents. His wanderlust did not fade as he grew older; Russell planned to travel to Thailand this fall.
Russell is survived by his parents: Mel and Adrienne Gilmore, his brothers: Kyle Gilmore and his wife Judie and Gregg Gilmore and his wife Karen, his three nieces: Lauren Gilmore and her fiancé Matt Gallard, Elise Blanchette and her husband Ray and Sydney Hopkins and her husband Kyle and his great nephew, Raymond Blanchette V, as well as his aunt, his cousins, their families, and many friends. Russell was dearly loved and will be missed by so many.
