Rose Marie Modica Scott went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2015, at the age of 66. Rose was born in Beaumont, Texas on June 4, 1949 to Thomas J. Modica, Sr. and Jean Golden Modica, who both preceded her in death. Rose is survived by her siblings: Rita Modica Guidry, Jean E. Modica, Elissia A. Modica Taylor and husband John R. Taylor, and Thomas J. Modica, Jr. and his wife Simberly Modica, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Rose graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont, Texas, in 1967 and continued her education at Lamar University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1972. Rose had a great love for life, family, the arts, and her friends. Her passions included interior design, close friends and family, and her sweet dog Fred. One of Rose’s greatest loves, though, was spending time next to the water. She loved her beach house on the Gulf, while either welcoming her family and many friends or just enjoying the solitude and peace she found there. She also enjoyed sharing her artistic talents and love of the arts with others. Her philanthropic projects seemed endless. She worked on several Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo committees where she made many true friends while serving tirelessly the youth and community of Houston.
Rose lived a full life and was a true free spirit. She lit up every room she entered with her joyous laughter, her beautiful smile, and her generous spirit. She constantly shared her warm, inviting home with family and friends. She gave of herself in so many ways. She had great advice for those who needed it and she had funny stories for those who needed that. All who knew her were touched by her kind heart, her generous soul, and amused by her quick wit and bubbly personality. She shall be forever loved and greatly missed.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, July 17 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, 77079. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, July 18, at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks also. Burial is scheduled for Sunday July 19th at 2:30 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4955 Pine Street, Beaumont, Texas where she will be laid to rest with her beloved parents and sister Drury Theresa Modica. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Liver Foundation.
