Our dear mother Rose Moralyn Ince sadly passed away on April 18, 2025, at the age of 84. She was a wonderful, kind and gentle mother who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom, counsel and love in abundance. She was full of laughter, and resilience and trusted the Lord her guide and friend all the days of her life. She instilled her love for God to her husband and children whose lives have been blessed and changed by the legacy of love and trust in God that she has passed on.
Rose was born on February 17, 1941 in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica to parents, Zephaniah Ellis and Vanira Grant. She was the youngest of 5 children: Carmen (deceased), Clifton, Hermond (deceased) and Evelyn. While living in Jamaica she and her sister, Evelyn, had the privilege to complete their education at Alpha Academy in Kingston, Jamaica and while there she met a young man named Xavier Ince briefly at a party. She moved soon after in 1959 to Stamford Hill in north London, England to join the rest of her family. Xavier Ince fell in love with Rose and left the Jamaican Army and moved to England to pursue and marry Rose Ellis.
After a few years, Joshua and Rose decided that it was time to see the world, so they moved to Toronto, Canada; Berkeley, California; Chicago, Illinois and finally settled down for a while in Berrien Springs, Michigan while her husband pursued a college education. There, Rose enjoyed working at Andrews University in the business office as a Cashier/Accountant. She worked for many years in that capacity and enjoyed the community of Andrews University and developed lifelong friends. In 1973, Joshua, Rose and the girls wanted to add to their family, and with much prayer, a son, Joshua was born to complete the family. While at Andrews, Rose learned many new life skills which she enjoyed sharing with her family such as canning and sewing. No matter how many hours she worked, she always found time to invest herself in her family and made sure that they had lovely handmade church dresses, coats and outfits for her daughters and little hand-made suits for her son. She also made sure that her children were able to enjoy the many activities on campus such as swimming lessons and roller skating. Sometimes during the day, she would drop by during the summertime when the children were not in school and take them out for ice cream and sub sandwiches. She was also very supportive of her husband while he was pursuing his degree by typing his school papers and working full-time to support the family. She always joked that she should “get the degree” for all the support she gave to her husband in college. Thankfully, she was able to pursue some general college studies for herself which she enjoyed immensely.
Our mother was in our eyes the “virtuous woman” that the Bible describes in Proverbs 31:10-31. May she rest in Jesus until He comes back to take her home.
Rose will be lovingly remembered as the: Wife of Joshua, daughter of Zephaniah and Vanira.
Left to cherish her memory are her brothers and sisters and her children. She was known by her seven grandaughters Julia Leacock, Amany Lorino, Lauren Powell, Angelina Leacock, Marie Powell, Milana Ince and Sarina Ince lovingly as “Grandmommy”.
