After graduating from Hardee High School in 1967, he was drafted into the US Army. Where he served in the 5th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, where he lost his right leg. He received two Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars with Valor and two Army Accommodation Medals. In 1972, he married the love of his life Patricia and they lived in Winter Haven, Florida. In 1979, he moved his family and settled in Houston, Texas until his passing.
Ron’s life revolved around his wife and his three boys. Whatever activities his boys were involved in, you would see Ron there. He coached baseball and was Cub Scout Pack Leader and Boy Scout Troop Leader for all three of his boys. He loved his grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them. He enjoyed outdoor cooking and was known for his world-famous bar-b-que and dutch oven peach cobblers.
Ron was a committed follower of Jesus. Praying and having weekly bible studies with his son Nicholas. He always had a praise on his lips and was a mighty prayer warrior.
He is survived by his three sons: Ronald B Godfrey, Jr, Nicholas H Godfrey and Matthew K Godfrey; his grandchildren: Ty, Taylor, Tatum and Gabriella; his twin sisters: Martha Godfrey Horn and Margaret Godfrey Cash: as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 44 years, Patricia Ann Godfrey; son Charles David Godfrey; siblings: Patricia Ann Godfrey Williams and Royce William Godfrey.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, with a Celebration of Life Service on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 12:45 pm at American Heritage Funeral Home. Immediately following the service, he will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife at Houston National Cemetery.
