Robert (Bobby) was born on July 27, 1959, in Atlanta, GA to William Roberts and Velma Morgan Wiggins. In 1962, the family moved to Houston where he spent the remainder of his life, attending Memorial High School and San Jacinto College. Bobby passed away at home on December 18, 2024, after an all too brief battle with cancer.
Bobby spent his career in the television industry starting at the age of about 6 appearing in a Foley’s TV commercial. He went on to work for NBC and local affiliate KPRC, spending almost 40 years in the industry. One of his fondest early memories was chauffeuring Jane Pauley while she was in Houston covering NASA. Over the years he served as a studio camera operator, videographer, photojournalist and satellite engineer. He covered news, human interest stories and sports events in and around Houston as well as national events from 911 to the Space Shuttle Colombia disaster, to coverage of hurricanes from Katrina to Harvey.
In his off-time Bobby enjoyed ice hockey, sailing Cygnet with his father, flying (airplanes, models and drones), cycling and scuba diving. He was a kind, thoughtful and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors, A graveside service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery at 2 PM on Saturday, December 21.
Bobby is survived by his sister Diane, brother-in-law Vic, his brother Bill, sister-in-law Brenda, niece Morgan, and nephew Will along with his two rescue cats.
