Bob was born in Houston on August 14th 1929, the son of Edward Armstrong Sowders and Eloise Atkinson Sowders.
He graduated from Houston Jefferson David High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Joan Marie Lang on June 10th, 1950 and celebrated 63 years together before her passing in 2014. He worked as a draftsman for much of his career, but his passion was doing the Lord's work and he served as an elder at both Lindale and North Spring Woodlands churches of Christ. He loved to write songs, sing and played the banjo and a dulcimer that he made himself. He loved his wife and wrote 71 songs to her after she passed. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and would schedule his vacations from work to coincide with deer season and continued actively hunting each year until age 87.
Bob is survived by his children Shera & John Melson, Robert Sowders Jr., and Jerry & Lee Ann Sowders; grandchildren Colin, Amanda, Emily, Rachel, Jacob, and Joanne; great grandchildren Robert, Gary, Grant, Jackson, Haley, Ashlyn, Bennett, Reagan, Luke, Cole, Henry. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Shirley Sowders, Nell Sowders, and Cheryl Dew; and brother-in-law Dennis Lang.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joan, His sister Mary Lowe, and his brothers Alan and Don Sowders.
