Robert J. Collins (aka Bob), 65, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 3, 2012 at Christus St. Catherine Hospital of Katy surrounded by his family after a two year courageous battle with colon cancer.
Bob was born in Cleveland, Ohio on July 10, 1946. He attended St. Mark Lutherern Elementary, Rhodes High School, and Electrical Technology Institute. As a youth he was actively involved in the Sea Scouts. He earned a mile swim badge, among many, and received the honorable Order of the Arrow. Drums were his passion. He played the snare drum in the Caballaros Drum and Bugle Corps for many years and taught drums from age 16 to 31. He loved any music with drums as a highlighted instrument. He also enjoyed roller skating, swimming, golf, cruising and family gatherings. Bob was an active member of St. Bartholomew The Apostle Catholic Church of Katy, Texas since 1980. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, Acts Retreat member, a Eucharistic minister, greater, continuing religious education teacher, church board member for two years, and RCIA member for 5 years. His favorite was working the margarita machine at the annual bazaars and quickly became known as “the margarita man”.
Bob worked for many companies in the Cleveland area until accepting a position in Houston, Texas in 1980. Soon after relocating his family to Houston, Bob launched his own company Tektrol Industries in 1982. Tektrol Industries combines state-of-the-art technology products to solve automation and control needs. After many years of success, Bob sold Tektrol Industries in November of 2011.
Bob is preceded in death by mother Geraldine Guddy (Hrdlicka), father Robert J. Collins Sr., stepfather Paul Guddy, and step mother Eloise Collins. He is survived by brother Mark, special step mother Milly Collins, wife Janet of 44 years, 3 daughters Joyce Andrus (Jim), Pamela Williams (Steven), Amy Collins (fiancé Ben), Grandsons Connor and Grayson Williams, special Aunt Rose Kordan, 3 brother-in-laws Bob Martynowski, Donald Martynowski (Elaine), Ronald Martynowski (Linda), 4 nieces, 4 nephews and many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 8th, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Bartholomew The Apostle Catholic Church in Katy followed by interment at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. Reception will follow interment at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home.
