Robert Lee Burnett Jr, son of the late Robert L. Burnett Sr. and Joyce L. Holmes was born on Saturday August 28, 1943, in Houston, Texas. He was the only child born to that union. Robert was peacefully called home from his earthly life and fell into the arms of our LORD on, Monday June 5, 2023, in the confront of his home at 5:54 in the evening.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at a tender age and was a devoted member of North Main Church of GOD in Christ in Houston, Texas. After many years of faithful service at North Main Church of GOD in Christ, Robert rededicated his life to Christ again in 2017 under the direction of Pastor J. Collins.
One fine day in March of 1984, Robert met the love of his life, Shirley Southall. They were united in Holy Matrimony April 29, 1998. This union was already blessed with a host of daughters and sons who hailed from their previous marriages.
Robert was a loving and devoted husband. He was an excellent father, as well as a stellar grandfather, great-grandfather , uncle and friend. He would have done anything he could for his family.
Robert was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences: committed hard worker with over 45 years of Maintenance and Grounds experience where he served in a Supervisory capacity through LMC Management Company, Lincoln Property Company, and Houston Community College Systems where he was recognized for Assistance Maintenance of the Year ’92, Spirit of Lincoln Award ’99, Gold Medallion Award ’00, and The Highest Achievement Award ’04 he could fix or build anything.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Robert L. Burnett, and Joyce L. Watts (Ponce De Leon Watts), his adoring grandmother, Minialo Bland, grandfather James Bland as well as two sons, Angelo T. Burnett and Keith L. Burnett, his grand-daughter, NaTasha D. Robinson. Mother-in-Law Agnes B. Simon and Father-in-Law Frances H. Simon. Grandfather James and sister-in-law, Zula Simon Zenon (Bonnie).
Robert was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by many lives he touched. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Shirley A. Burnett of 25years, his sons, Kevin Burnett (Cassandra), (Lil) Robert Lee -Hudlin Burnett III, and Kevill Burnett, his daughters Angela Bryant, Tamatha Burnett, Ava Francis (Brady), and Michelle Southall. Sister-in-law, Elva Ben (Rayfield), Ethel Guillory, Mildren Wilson and Agnes Simon (Janet), brothers-in-Law Francis Simon (Tommie) and Alvin Zenon as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. His cup runneth over.
He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them- and if you knew him, you knew it. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly.
Robert was a strong fighter, but he is now sailing on a journey to shores that we cannot see. We know that he is free from pain and is floating peacefully with his sea turtle friends in the crystal-clear turquoise waters of his dreams. Just keep swimming…
“Seeing death as the end of life is like seeing the horizon as the end of the ocean.”
We will always love and miss you until we can meet again.
