Robbie was born in Houston, Texas, on September 23, 1949. She was raised in Pasadena, Texas, and graduated from Pasadena High School in 1967. After high school, she attended the Lilly Jolly School of Nursing at Memorial Baptist Hospital in downtown Houston. During her long nursing career, she wore many hats! A portion of her career was spent in administrative roles in various hospitals, and for a few years, she worked for large assisted living companies as a regional manager. She continued her education, receiving a Masters Degree in Nursing Education. The last 17 years of her career were probably her favorite! She became a nursing professor at San Jacinto College and fell in love with education. Her passion was “raising” nurses who had what she called “heart”. Robbie definitely had the heart for her profession and for all who crossed her path. Her heart continued to shine as she reached out to others via a video blog, “Rising Up with Robbie”, to inspire and give hope to other amputees.
Robbie was blessed to have called Gracefully Found Care Home, now Light Heart Memory Care, in Pasadena, Texas, “HOME” for the past 15 months. The outstanding care and love she received there helped her to thrive. The family would like to thank Robbie’s wonderful team of physicians, many of whom became “family”, for the outstanding care and compassion they gave her.
Robbie is survived by and will be so missed by her two sisters, Diane Gordon of Wallisville, Texas, and Judy McCoy of Katy, Texas, two nephews, several great nieces/nephews, two great-great nephews and one great-great niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ursula Murphy, of Pasadena, Texas, and her brother-in-law, John Gordon, of Wallisville, Texas.
A committal service for Robbie will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkLawndaleFH.com for the Murphy family.
