Robbie Griffin, Sr. was born March 27, 1936 to Linnie Mae Lockett and Arthur B. Griffin. He met and married the love of his life, Mary Virginia Eggleston on November 16, 1962. To this union three children were born. He united with the New Hope Baptist Church, Kennard Texas at an early age.
Robbie graduated from Kennard Colored High School in 1954 as Valedictorian of the class. He entered the United States Army that same year. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1956.
Robbie worked at the Veterans Hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for 36 years. During his tenure he received several outstanding awards for his service. He retired from the Veterans Hospital in 1991.
Robbie enjoyed reading and staying up with the current events. He took a correspondence course in electronics and built a twenty-five inch television. After putting all of the components and setting the color in the television, he ordered a cabinet for the television. He repaired TVs for his co-workers. He also took an interest in air conditioning repair and took a course in air conditioning repair.
Robbie left this earth on November 26, 2021 at the Harbor Hospice House of Houston. He was preceded in death by his Son: Robbie Lee Griffin; Parents: Linnie Mae Lockett and Arthur B. Griffin.
Brothers: Willie Z Mitchell & Wade Griffin, Sr.; Aunt: Ozell Calhoun, who raised him after his Mother’s death.
Robbie left to cherish his memories a loving Wife: Mary Virginia Eggleston Griffin; Children: Robert Lee Griffin, Rene Lee Griffin of Houston, and James Ray Mitchell (Cheryl) of Georgia. Grandchildren: Kellen Mitchell (Portia); Kiersten Saunders (Julien); Great Grandchildren: Beau Saunders, Sidney Mitchell; Brother in Laws: James Eggleston, Breelove Eggleston, Willie Eggleston (Jonell); Sister in Laws: Annie Rosette, Lucy Davis, Sigglee Abernathy, Shelia Felton (Ethon), Brenda Howell (Timothy), Edna Mitchell, Lula Eggleston; A host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
A visitation for ROBBIE will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Rose of Sharon Worship Center, 7607 Droucet Street, Houston, TX 77061. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 7607 Droucet Street, Houston, TX 77061. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Paradise Cemetery South, 16001 Cullen, Houston, TX 77030.
