Ricky “Rick” Dale Byrd, 65, of Kingwood, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 5th, 2019. Born in New Boston, Texas to Jim Davis Byrd and Mildred (“Maudie”) Maurine Byrd. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, as well as his brother, James Byrd. He is survived by his wife, Amy Byrd; sister, Betty Ward and husband Tommy; brother, Tim Byrd and wife Teena; sister-in-law Martha Byrd; and daughters Jaime Groff and husband Brian, Jennifer DeWitt and husband Ned, Ashley Earhart and wife Daphne Johnson; and grandchildren Tucker Eberling and MJ Earhart-Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews and an extended host of family members, friends and loved ones.
Rick was a devoted husband and father. He graduated from M.B. Smiley High School, Class of 1972. He worked many years in the oilfield industry and eventually opened his own service and supply company, Byrd Oilfield Service & Supply (“BOSS”).
Rick will be remembered for his charm, love for the spoken word, irreverent sense of humor, quick wit and a laugh that would make anyone fall in love with him. It wasn’t uncommon for him to be the center of attention because he could light up a room with his laughter. He was notorious for circulating jokes via email; and just as notorious at circulating request for prayers for his family and friends. Rick loved cooking and sharing food with others. If he wasn’t cooking his famous deviled eggs for others, he was buying kolaches and donuts for them. Rick always took a personal interest in everyone he met. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living a life with those you love.
He was a devoted Christian and member of The Woodlands First Baptist Church. He enjoyed the Mountain Climbers Sunday School class and above all, he enjoyed witnessing to others. On any given Sunday, Rick and Amy would attend The Woodlands First Baptist Church, as well as Kingwood First Baptist Church and Living Creek Church in Porter, Texas.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. at Brookside Funeral Home (Dignity Memorial) located at 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home (Dignity Memorial).
