Richard graduated from Lamar High School and received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Houston. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He met his wife Beverly on a blind date in Houston and were married in 1958. Richard had a very successful career in Architecture at Husmann Architecture for 55 years. He had a passion for design, sketching, golf, and fishing. Richard was a lifelong Houstonian and with his wife raised two children, Troy and Lacy. Lacy took after her father and has become an Interior Designer and artist and lives in New Ulm. Troy overcame significant birth issues and worked many years for A&E Graphics and lives here in Houston. Richard and Beverly were an instrumental part in reforming how SBISD attends to children with intellectual disabilities. Richard had an extraordinary career as an architectural designer with projects in over a dozen states and Puerto Rico. Retiring in New Ulm to a modern self-designed home that was the talk of the town, Richard soon became the go to designer in the area. Between his passion for family, design, golf, and fishing, he personified a life well lived.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly Lacy Husmann and older sister and brother Ella Marie Mitchell and Robert Gene Husmann.
He is survived by his younger brother David Arnold Husmann, daughter Elizabeth Lacy Husmann and son Troy Richard Husmann.
