Richard an Army Veteran of the Korean War, was born June 10, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Ralph Francis Goody and Blanche Marie LeVora of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mr. Goody had a long work history before and after the Army and being stationed in Korea during the Korean War. Highlights of his career included becoming an Engineer, then working for or was a contractor for Collins Radio, Northrup-Grumman, Lockheed-Martin, NASA, and Ellington Field among others.
In his youth, Mr. Goody was an excellent marksman achieving tournament status and winning competitions. Mr. Goody enjoyed routine visits to and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #6378 in Dickinson, TX and the American Legion South Houston Post #490. He enjoyed motorcycles, guns, weaponry, military, NASA exploits, local Sheriff's Dept, proud NRA lifetime member, and was an avid photographer most of his life. Mr. Goody married twice in his life; first to JoAnn Marie Reiland in 1957, ending in 1969. Marrying a second time to his now late wife, Vera Gladys Morris in Galveston 1977 remaining married for 24 years.
Mr. Goody is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Vera June 3, 2001 there were no children born to this marriage.
Mr. Goody is survived by two sons, Richard R. Goody, Jr. of Alvin, TX and Michael D. Goody of Garland, TX; three grandchildren (Father Richard Jr.) Nicholas Goody, of Baytown, TX and Taylor Goody of Baytown, TX and Jennifer Matson of Houston, TX. Great Grandchildren (Mother Jennifer Matson) Nicholas, Cecilia, Abigail and Madelyn. Also survived by sister Jean "Jeanie" Alice Goody (Salter) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A funeral service for Richard will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM at American Heritage Funeral Home, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
A committal service will occur Monday, January 23, 2023 from 1:15 PM to 1:30 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038. A reception will follow at American Heritage Funeral Home from 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM.
A visitation will occur Monday, January 23, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 10710 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77038.
