He Graduated from U.S.C. in 1962 and belonged to the Phi Kappa fraternity. While there he played drums in a small band.
One of his first jobs was working as a security guard at Paramount Studios while in college before enlisting into the Army Reserve in 1962. in 1964 he was employed as a field rep and underwriter for an insurance company. In 1974 he was hired by Industrial Indemnity and was soon promoted and relocated to Boise, Idaho in 1975. In 1982 he and his wife Fran and their four children moved to Houston, Texas where he worked until retiring and enjoying life in his same home of 42 years.
He was noted for his dry sense of humor and was always quick with a witty comment at the perfect time.
He was an avid photographer and always had a camera when attending any event. His wife worked for Continental Airlines for 26 years which afforded him the ability to take his camera around the world and bring his adventurers back home in film.
Dick passed away Friday, November 15, 2024 after an extended battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Frances, his two sons, Ron Ashton with wife Autumn of Arizona, Russ Ashton of Seattle and two stepdaughters, Jamie Pike with husband Randy of Texas and Jill Wyman with husband Jim of Arkansas. Dick also leaves behind granddaughter Katie Ashton-Gangawere with two great-grandchildren Jackson & Graham and two grandsons Garrett & Gavin Pike.
