Becky was born September 7, 1943, in Tempe, AZ, to Grady and Laura Lou Odom. They moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, in 1946 and attended Lakeshore Baptist Church. After graduating from Fair Park High School in 1961, Becky attended Panola Junior College in Carthage, Texas. She then received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. She later earned her Master's Degree. She taught elementary school in various capacities for 35 years, including Reading Lab settings, Gifted and Talented classes, and ESL classes in the Porter and New Caney, Texas, area school districts. But Becky's true passion in life was playing, singing, and performing bluegrass music. She traveled as often as possible with her husband Ed to bluegrass festivals, and she enjoyed singing in music jams, open-mic nights, and performing for various occasions. She played several musical instruments - mostly the guitar - and shared her love for music with hundreds of people over the years, teaching many, who became lifelong friends, to play as well. She wrote and published several songs and performed with her bands over the years, one called "Becky and the Gold Miners" in the 1980's, and later was a member of "Southern Spice." One of her happiest moments was an occasion when she got to perform a song on stage with Porter Wagoner. Most recently, she enjoyed performing with her current band, "Texas Harmony", at her home church, Unity Baptist Church in Porter, Texas, and for many other area churches.
Becky was energetic and kind hearted. She loved to play cards and word games up until her last days, and she was always willing to help others in any way she could, including some successful matchmaking.
Becky was preceded in death by her father, Grady C. Odom; mother Laura Lou Womack Odom; brother James David Odom; sister Eva Beth Odom, who died at birth; daughter-in-law Katie Cargill; and step-grandson, Grant Goodwin.
She is survived by her husband Edward Goodwin of Kingwood, TX; son, David Cargill of Kingwood, TX; grandchildren Cody Cargill and Alyson Cargill; brothers Robert (Bob) Odom and wife Donna of Cave Creek, AZ, and Donald Odom and wife Paula of Bossier City, LA; and sister Jill Odom Malone and husband Huey of New Caney, TX.
