Rachel Dianne Morehead, daughter to Freeman and Nadine Dunn, was born in Houston, TX on January 21, 1951 and passed away peacefully at home in the presence of her husband, Lane, and lifelong friend, Beth, on July 5, 2022.
Dianne was reared among numerous family members living on Dunn Lane in Porter, TX, surrounded by horses, cattle, snakes, brothers, and cousins. She bragged that she was a tomboy who could defend herself against the boys, but she was always the most precious beautiful daughter to her parents. And nobody questioned her stunning beauty as she grew older.
After graduating from Conroe High School in 1969, Dianne enrolled in Blinn Junior College, but withdrew before graduating to marry and raise her own family on Dunn Lane.
Dianne’s early endeavors included membership on various committees of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving as County Court Coordinator under Judge Bill Elliott, co-ownership of a beauty salon, and assistant in one of her father’s businesses, Gulf States Abrasive.
In July, 1997, Dianne met Lane Morehead, who she married on August 22, 1998. Dianne and Lane became very close friends with her parents; the four of them shared season tickets to the theatres in Houston, and they spent at least one weekend every month together at their lake house on Inks Lake in the Texas Hill Country. Sundays usually meant Belgian waffles at the lake house and, in later years, breakfast at Freeman and Nadine’s home in Porter.
Dianne especially enjoyed annual golfing trips to various locations in the U.S., where she and Lane joined many of Lane’s West Point classmates and their wives for a short week of golf, dining, and good fun. It can honestly be said that Dianne was a favorite among the wives, but especially the guys. Any wonder.
In her later years, Dianne’s maladies may have slowed her down, but she always maintained her incredibly positive attitude and her abiding faith in God and our savior, Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Bill Dunn. She is survived by Lane, her loving husband of 24 years, her two sons, Joseph and Michael, grandson Oliver, sister in law, Debbie, and brother, Craig, along with numerous relatives and friends.
A visitation for Rachel will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023, followed by a memorial service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
