She attended Carver High School in Houston, TX, and was raised to believe that Jesus is Lord. She married Connie Walker King on June 8, 1985. They both joined four children to this union. Trawana Pitts, Jeremy King (deceased), Derrick King and Shantell Jones.
Phyllis was a devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, god-mother, daughter and friend. She was the type of person that would always see the best in someone. This life that was given to her, she fought every step of the way, even to the very end. She will be missed by all that ever encountered her.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her son Jeremy King.
Phyllis is survived by her mother, Bertha Pitts; her husband of 38 years, Connie W. King; her daughters Shantell Jones (Joel Jones) and Trawana S. Pitts (Betty Lietz); grandchildren, Joel (Rabbit) Jones, Ke’Ronnie Jones, Tamanisha Hardy, Joel Jones III, Joseph McGhee, Kylie M. Lietz-Carraway, Kaitlynn D. Lietz, McGary, Jeremy King Jr., Erin King, Vanward King, Marley King, Madison King, Derrick King Jr. and Chandler King; siblings, Flora Pitts, Kenneth Pitts, Ricky Pitts and Robert Earl Pitts Sr.; God-children, Robert Earl Pitts Jr, Jaelyn King, Alexious Guidry and Zion Milburn; brother-in-law, Lewis Benton; honorary daughters, Latoya Guidry and LaQuisha Ellis and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.
A visitation for Phyllis will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Central Garden Missionary Baptist Church, 6810 Cours St, Houston, TX 77093. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, 6810 Cours St, Houston, TX 77093. A committal service will occur Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, Texas 77088.
