Peggy Derbonne was born in New Orleans Louisiana, the youngest child and only daughter of Levy John Derbonne and Isabella Bell along with four older brothers Stookie, Merrill, Kelly and Glenn.
Her father was killed while Peggy was very young and due to extremely difficult financial circumstances, Peggy spent her younger years in a Catholic orphanage.
As a young woman Peggy made her way to Houston and met Jack Raley while they both worked for Foley’s Department Stores. They were married in the early 1950’s and had one child together, Janet Robin. Jack Raley passed away in May of 2000.
Peggy enjoyed a very active social life. She was an avid league bowler for many, many years. She enjoyed recounting her bowling accomplishments and rolled a perfect game of 300. She loved to ballroom dance and continued to do so. She also enjoyed playing Bridge with her Bridge Club friends. Peggy, never one to sit still for very long, lived an active and full life. She loved to talk with friends and could talk and laugh for hours.
Peggy entered the hospital for abdominal surgery on Monday May 9th and never fully recovered from the procedure. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers and husband. She leaves many friends and family members to morn her and to recall her wry wit, individual southern style and distinct manner.
