Pat Ryan, a member of the “Greatest Generation” passed away at the age of 101 on November 15, 2024. Pat, the youngest of the five surviving siblings, was born in Marion, Ohio to John Oliver Ryan and Marguerite White Ryan.
In 1943, he entered the Army, serving in the 128th of the Third Army. At the conclusion of World War II, Pat moved to Huntsville, Texas where he attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College receiving a BA in Business Administration. It was in Huntsville that he met his wife, Doris King Ryan. Upon her death in 2007, they had been married for 59 years.
Pat had a long career with Superior Oil Company, retiring in 1984. In his retirement, he continued to embrace life, regularly working out at the YMCA and playing golf. Pat was a resident of Bellaire, Texas until 2012 when he moved to Eagles Trace. Throughout his long life, Pat possessed the extraordinary talent of making friends. He was blessed to celebrate his 100th birthday surrounded by lifelong friends and family. He was loved by many and will be missed by countless.
Pat is survived by his daughters, Ann and Leslie, their spouses Gene and Carl and his adored grandson James Patrick. He was predeceased by his wife Doris King Ryan and his granddaughter Ryan.
The family wishes to thank Pat’s caregivers, with a special thanks to Lady Brown for her loving care of Pat. In lieu of flowers, Pat requested donations be made to the Salvation Army or the charity of your choice. Despite the passage of years, Pat remembered the free donuts and coffee, a taste of home, the Salvation Army gave to our country’s war-weary soldiers during War World II.
