Patsy Jane was born in Houston on August 10, 1942, to Ham & Jane Ellisor. She grew up in Houston’s East End, graduated Austin High School and then Massey’s Business College. While working at Schlumberger, she was introduced to the love of her life, Charles A. Schmidt. Pat and Charles were married on October 15, 1966. They adopted two children, Charles Thomas Schmidt, and Natalie Dawn Taylor, both of whom survived her. She also left behind her best friend of more than 50 years, Donnie Wunderlich, as well as two grandchildren, Charles Battle Schmidt and Catherine Jane Schmidt, a son-in-law, Gregory Taylor, a brother, Ronald Hamlin Ellisor, and a sister-in-law, Lavonne Prosser Ellisor. Pat held a special place in each of their hearts and will be missed forever.
Pat had a great many joys in her life, including politics, fishing, doing puzzles, playing bunko, tending her rose garden, cooking, working with charities, and singing in her church choir, but the most important thing to her has always been family. She grew up with 11 cousins and spent many summers on Galveston Bay. Throughout her life her best days were the holiday celebrations at Easter, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas because she could spend time with multiple generations of extended family. Thanksgivings at the Bay were her favorite.
Her favorite place on earth was her farm near Fayetteville, Texas. She and Charles achieved their collective dream of retiring and living there full time in 1997. Whether she was working in the yard, fishing at the lake, driving around in the Gator, walking to the front gate, or just sitting on the front porch watching the cows, she was at peace in that place.
Pat was always very active in her community. Whether it was serving as President of the PTO in Plano, or publishing the newsletter for the Republican Women in Fayette County, volunteering to cashier at the Methodist Men’s barbecue sale, or building floats for the Fourth of July parade, she always gave everything she had to help others. One of her great loves was assisting with voter registration and elections in Fayette County. She loved meeting all of the residents as they registered and/or cast their ballots.
Pat will be honored at a funeral service and burial at Forest Park Lawndale on November 15, 2002, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. A visitation will be held beginning at 1 o’clock, immediately preceding the funeral service. The family will also host a Memorial Service at First United Methodist Church in La Grange, Texas, on November 20, 2022, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
The family would like to thank all of the many people who supported and prayed for Pat during her recent illnesses. Special recognition and thanks are extended to Donnie Wunderlich, Rita Karpel, and the nurses at Memorial City Rehab and MD Anderson Cancer Center for their loving, dedicated care.
