What we will mainly miss about mama is Sunday Dinner. We would all arrive at her house
around 1 o’clock, and we always knew what we were going to have: chicken, mash potatoes,
mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, hot water cornbread, the usual. It was always
important that we made a line in the kitchen so everyone could have a plate and there would be
no arguments (there was always some kind of argument). Then we sit around mom with our
dinner and discuss worldly events, which would lead to another argument about politics. Finally,
as you prepare to leave the house with your to-go plate, mom would say one more thing, and you
would come right back into the house. No one really left with the time that they had planned.
So mom, thanks for giving us life, and thanks for making it good. We love you.
