Mr. Norman Conrad Brady

The golfing gods threw us another curve ball with the passing of Norman Conrad Brady on Thursday, the 6th of December 2012. Norman was born on the 29th of June 1934, in Dallas, Texas, and was the older of two children. Most of his life was spent in Houston as a proud member and resident of Champions.

He received his Bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and was a devout alum as well as a boisterous member of the “Paw-Bears.” Though he would never admit where, he went on to attain a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas. After graduation, he enlisted as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas. Norman spent the first years of his career in theater, following in his father’s footsteps and working for Interstate Theaters as a liaison to Hollywood’s finest. Before leaving show business to become a Senior Vice President for Service Corporation International, he learned to tell a joke or two. Maybe you’ve heard one? During his 20 years at SCI he formed lifelong bonds and friendships which will not be forgotten.

Norman had a love for the arts and was known to indulge in an occasional libation. He also had a deep rooted passion for golf. His handicap varied from tournament to tournament, but he was always a scratch in person. At 75 years young Norman shot his age at Tomball Country Club, with witnesses. He passed his love for the game on to his children and never missed an opportunity to lend his advice.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Conrad Brady (Billie) and Louise Norman Brady; and his brother, Jim Bob Brady. Charged with filling his shoes are his wife of 43 years, Kornelia Sichol Brady; children, Brigitte Brady Lanford and Adam Conrad Brady (Katherine), John Moncrief, Thomas Moncrief, Timothy Moncrief (Elizabeth) ; grandchildren, Mary Alden Brett (Thomas), Tate Lanford, William Moncrief, Jason Moncrief, Colt Moncrief (Amy), Travis Moncrief, Alexandra Moncrief and his canine confidante, Bug Bug.

His family would like to thank all his golfing buddies for keeping him in the rack when it became so difficult for him to play. He was so grateful for those days. Also, a special thanks to his doctors and the nursing staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Woodlands. They worked so very hard to help him make it one more time and go home. It was not meant to be.

A celebration of Norman’s life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 12th of December, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Rev. Dr. Bill Heston, Executive Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, is to officiate. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Jerry Biesel, Don Campbell, Jack Farrar, George Gearner, Carroll Overton, John Stieneker, R.L. Waltrip, Tad Weeks and Don White.

Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
