She was born in Shreveport, La. on May 25, 1930 to Heywood and Emma Mae Hartsell Morris. She moved to Houston in 1946 and graduated from Reagan High School in 1948. She married Donald M. Hackney in 1951. They moved from the Houston Heights to Timbergrove Manor in 1957, where they raised their three children. She was widowed in 1983. She was a longtime member of Houston First United Methodist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She had a long career with, and retired from DeWalch Technologies in 2019 after 36 years. She loved her job, and cherished her associates there. She was an avid and knowledgeable birder, nature lover, traveler, investor, reader, American patriot, mentor, mother and grandmother, who lived for her beloved children and grandchildren. She was known for her kindness, sweet nature, modesty, wit, and generosity.
She is survived by sons Barry (Pamela) and Wesley (Tracey) and daughter, Laurie Meredith (Lynn), and four grandchildren: Leslie and Donald Hackney, and Brant and Reese Meredith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and esteemed colleagues.
She is preceded in death by her husband, infant daughter, parents, a brother and sister.
Private interment will be at Resthaven, with a celebration of life at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made in her name to First UMC Houston or the Houston Audubon Society.
