On June 10, 1960, Narumi was born in Yachi, Yamagata in Japan. She was born in the home of her parents Shoji and Hisae Shimomura. She was the second child born to the Shimomuras. Her sister, Hitomi was born in the hospital in Kaminoyama, Yamagata, Japan.
Narumi lived in Yachi and Tendo in Yamagata where her twin sons were born. Following the death of her first husband Yasuo Abe, she moved to America and began living with her sister in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. While there she met and married Bradley Smith. During this time she earned an Associates Degree in Business. Following graduation, she and her family moved to Perryville, Missouri. Later they moved to Kaneohe, Hawaii for 6 years. Following the twins’ graduation from high school, Brad and Narumi returned to the mainland to Green City, Missouri for a couple of years. After their time in Green City was completed, they moved to Houston, Texas in 2008. She lived here until the time of her passing.
She was employed by the Sumitomo Corporation of America, Houston Branch, for more than 10 years. While working there she grew to love working with her colleagues and was passionate about her job as an Executive Assistant to the General Manager. Even during her battle with cancer, she desired to return to work and to be reunited with her colleagues and friends. She enjoyed helping and serving others at work and outside of her job.
She is survived by her husband, Bradley Smith of Houston, Texas, her children Takayasu Abe and his wife Ayako née Sakai and their son Sage of Chicago, Illinois, and Hiroyasu Abe of Yamato, Kanagawa, Japan.
She is also survived by her parents Shoji and Hisae Shimomura of Yachi, Yamagata, Japan, her sister Hitomi Scott née Shimomura and husband Stephen of Dallas, Texas along with other family members, numerous friends, and colleagues.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 10:00 am until 11:00 with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am in The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024 with a reception to follow in the Event Room.
