Nang Tai was born May 18, 1923 in Canton, China. She had three sisters and one brother. She married John Chan in 1944 and had four children: Paul, Peter, Pauline, and Philip. In 1968, she moved to Hong Kong and later immigrated to New York. She moved to Texas in 2013 and lived in Sugar Land for the last 6 years. She is survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren (1 great grandchild on-the-way).
She enjoyed playing mahjong, walking down the streets of New York's Chinatown to socialize and buy groceries, people watching at dim-sum and on her front stoop, making notebooks out of pink papers and pretty cardstock, and watching boxing, basketball, and UFC matches. We will always remember the little things she did for us (readily pulling out candy from her pockets, asking if we've had dinner, spoiling us with snacks, making 缽仔糕 and 粽子 , cooking odd dishes like macaroni and sugar or ketchup with rice, and helping the great grandkids cheat at hide-and-seek). We will miss her sweet chuckles, but she will live on forever in our hearts and cherished memories.
