Dena D. Raleigh was a native of Houston, Texas. She was the first born to Arthurene and Sidney Raleigh. She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney Raleigh and her brother Danny C. Raleigh. She grew up in Houston Heights and was educated in the Houston Public School system. She attended South Texas College on a full academic scholarship. She also attended the University of Houston Central Campus on a full academic scholarship. She was baptized at an early age by Rev. W. J. Foreman at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where she began her career in music as the Sunday School musician. Her mother and grandmother realized that she was gifted in music and was very supportive of her. She served as a musician at several churches: Mt. Calvary, St. Luke, Second Calvacade, Greater Mt. Calvary, New Loyalty, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, and St. Paul. She also sang with the D.E. & D. Gospel Trio and was a musician for the Children for Christ Community Choir. Those left to cherish her memories are: her mother Arthurene Jones of Houston, Texas; brother Fantez Jones (Avis) of Houston, Texas; daughter Yolanda Raleigh of Houston, Texas; grandson Bralyn Thomas of Houston, Texas; granddaughter Alonnie Washington of Houston, Texas and a host of relatives and friends.
