Mr. Clarence Thompson

Mr. Clarence Thompson peacefully joined the elite ranks of heaven on October 6, 2015. A gentle spirit with a quiet confidence, Mr. Thompson was an inspirational husband, father, brother and friend. Known for his quick wit, one liners and warm smile, he lived as though all was well with his soul . As a survivor of the Depression Era, he often told of how his family ate fish heads from the local market to survive . These experiences influenced his method to provide for his own family but also inspired his children to have strong work ethics and become self sufficient. He was born to Horace and Ella (Taylor) Thompson on October 9, 1923 in Houston. As the seventh child of ten children, he was affectionately named 'Bugger' by his father for he was an active child. Upon adulthood, he regularly visited all of his loved ones near and far to maintain family connection and care for their concerns. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, serving from 1941 - 1945 as Quartermaster. He worked at Baylor College of Medicine for over 30 years, and Hermann Hospital for many years . Upon arrival from his military service, Clarence joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized by the late Reverend M.C. Williams. He actively engaged in service in the church as a member of the Male Chorus. He ministered through music and was known for his spiritual renditions of It is well with my soul, I come to the Garden Alone and How Great Thou Art. Clarence married Ethel Lee Webb on October 23, 1943. Throughout their 60 years of marriage, four children were born from this union : Anthony Earl (Brenda), Kenneth Ray (Rosie), Michael Dean (Towanna) and Janice Marie (Phillip). Grandchildren: Brian Anthony (Dyetrell), LaSonya Tonnette, Narcreshia Rochelle (Clifford Sanford), Michael Dejuan, LaCurtt Evans, Jason Eric, Krislynn Rochelle, Trenton Rayshaun, Mykia Denae, Tiana Mickala. Great Grandchildren: Brandon, Freddie, Jalen Anthony,Dakota Kobe, Aniyah Brielle, Addison Noelle, Ja'Michael Jiel, Luke Anthony, and Riley Marie . And a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins .
