Mike was born to loving parents William Clancy Best and Juanita Jane Best on October 24, 1953 in Corpus Christi, Texas, the youngest of three children. He was raised in Houston, Texas and graduated from Spring Woods High School in 1972, where he played football and developed a love of sports.
After college, Mike began dating his future wife, Annette, whom he met in high school. The two of them moved back to the Houston area and were married in 1979. In 1984, Mike and Annette had their first son, Robert, and 3 years later they welcomed their second son, Travis. Mike could often be found coaching his sons’ little league baseball and basketball teams in their youth and he worked hard during their childhood to ensure they were taken care of and felt loved every day.
Mike kept in touch throughout his life with many of the friends he made in his younger years and made many more family and neighborhood friends during his sons’ childhood in Cypress, Texas. He could always be counted on to be the life of the party with his great wit and sense of humor that made him so fun to be around, and was never one to shy away from playing his favorite music on his newest speakers so that he could unreservedly sing and dance along (and by doing so, encourage everyone around him to do the same). Mike built his career in the valve sales industry before retiring in 2020 to spend more time traveling, golfing, supporting his favorite Houston sports teams, enjoying his family and friends, and finding new and exciting restaurants and bars in the Houston area to try out with Annette.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents William and Jane Best. He is survived by his companion, Annette Best; his sisters Judy Best, and Barbie Fisher and husband Buddy; his two sons, Robert Best and wife Lindsay, and Travis Best and wife Amy; and his four beautiful grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Brynlee and Bradley, and Norah and Reagan.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff at Memorial Hermann Memorial City ICU. They were exceptionally caring and supportive and took wonderful care of Mike in his final days.
A celebration of life will be held on April 13, 2023, at 11:00 am at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with a reception immediately following at Guadalajara Hacienda. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to the American Lung Association.
