He was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 17, 1952. Mike graduated from North Platte High School in 1970 and Kearney State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1976. Mike loved history and theater and performed in local plays during college.
For many years, Mike lived in Los Angeles and worked for Wolfgang Puck at Spago restaurant. He also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and The Depot restaurant in North Platte, Nebraska. Between 2001 and 2004 while living in North Platte, Mike enjoyed attending his nephew’s Hershey High School sports events.
Since 2004, Mike has resided in Houston near his sister Anna McLean and her family. Mike worked faithfully for eight years at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital in food services. Mike loved Houston, especially attending his nephews’ Episcopal High School sports events. Mike also enjoyed the Astros, Texans and Rockets.
He is survived by his five sisters: Lisa (John) Huebner of Hershey, NE; Sara (Lynn) Curry of Richland, WA; Anna (Scott) McLean of Houston, TX; Ginna (Rich) Claussen of Lincoln, NE; and Julia (Tucker) Arneson of Ft. Collins, CO; cousins: Kathy Dunbar, Tricia (Steve) Klintberg, and Liz Peak (Steve Cross) all of Arlington, VA; and other cousins and relatives. Mike (“Uncle Michael”) loved and cherished his 13 nieces and nephews: Julia, Emily, Jack, Rebecca, Caitlin, Drew, Kate, Peter, David, Richard, Bruce, Sara and Catherine.
Mike was a kind and gentle soul, with a friendly word to all he met. He had a great sense of humor that his family thoroughly enjoyed.
His parents, Bruce E. and Bette J. Allen of North Platte, Nebraska, preceded Mike in death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston, TX . A reception will immediately follow in the Bagby Parish Hall.
