Peggy was born on May 28, 1938 in Greenwood, Mississippi to Aubrey M. Wooten and Esther D. Wooten. She resided in New Orleans, Louisiana from early childhood until 2005 when Hurricane Katrina prompted her relocation to Houston, Texas. She was a member of the 1956 graduating class of St. Mary’s Dominican High School in New Orleans. She also attended Loyola University. Peggy worked as a Registered Nuclear Technician at Tulane University. She was also employed by Lakeview Veterinary Clinic, in New Orleans, prior to Katrina.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sister, Janet A. Varga and husband Paul A. Varga of Houston, Texas; niece, Patricia Kersey and husband Richard Kersey of Lake Jackson, Texas; niece, Sharon Varga of Austin, Texas; niece, Kathryn Varga of Boulder, Colorado; nephew, Paul A. Varga, Jr. of Houston, Texas; great-nephew, Patrick Kersey and wife Lauren Kersey of Lake Jackson, Texas; great-niece, Jennifer Finch and husband John Finch of College Station, Texas; great-nephew Christopher Kersey of Georgetown, Texas; and great-nephew Jonathan Kersey of College Station, Texas. She will also be missed by many dear, former classmates and friends.
Peggy will be well remembered as a selfless and giving person, and for her outgoing nature. It was often said of her that she never met a stranger. She loved to travel and enjoyed attending exhibits and the performing arts. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Houston Humane Society or a charity of your choice. Mass will be said at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc, Houston, TX 77024.
