MARY ALICE SANCHEZ, age 93, went home to our Lord Jesus Christ, on September 30, 2023. She was born in Houston, TX on August 19, 1930 to Anastacio and Maria Reyes. Mary Alice graduated from Sam Houston High School. She was married to the love of her life, George J. Sanchez, Sr. on February 8, 1958. They were married for 45 years until his death in 2003. Mary Alice was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church. She was a devoted and dedicated sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
She had a lot of hobbies, from enjoying a book before bed to drinking a cup of coffee with some pan de dulce while entertaining friends and family. She dabbled with drawing and liked to sing the occasional song. Her Uncle even taught her how to play the piano and had recitals. Mary Alice had a contagious smile and did not know a stranger. She loved going to California to visit with her family. She also, often went to Las Vegas or Louisiana with family and friends to play the slots and enjoy the scenery. She enjoyed her weekly card games with the family.
Mary Alice was a devote mother, she proved that when she was in the stands cheering on her son, Aron, while he would compete in the Special Olympics. And again when she was a caregiver to her son, George Jr. when he fell ill, until his death in 1995. She is a guiding light for Barbara in what it means to be a good person, through actions and deeds or something as simple as showing a bit of patience, grace and a loving smile.
Mary Alice set the example for what it means to devote everything of yourself to friends and family. She was heavily involved in all her grandchildren’s sports, dance, and piano recitals. Mary Alice often enjoyed going to Galveston in search of shark teeth and gazing at the horizon of the ocean. She was someone who liked a little adventure and would go boating and swimming in the cold waters of Canyon Lake.
