resident of Houston, Texas, was born on June 26, 1953 to the union
of John H. and Iola Anderson in Deerford, Louisiana. She accepted
Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Elder James
Stampley. Mary was a faithful member of the St. Paul Church of God
in Christ in Slaughter, Louisiana under the leadership of Elder William
Bolden until she moved to Houston, Texas.
Mary was a proud 1971 graduate of Chaneyville High School in
Zachary, Louisiana. She also attended Southern University A&M
College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education
in 1974. On May 30, 1975, Mary married the love of her life, Archie Hawkins
Jr. and moved to Houston, Texas. To this union, three children were born,
Archie, Aaron, and Adam Hawkins.
Mary was employed at Urban Affairs Corporation, Weiner’s Stores
Incorporation and Texas Southern University where she retired on
April 30, 2013, as an Educational Specialist and Childcare Coordinator.
After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family,
going to church, and crocheting. She would always call to check on her
grandchildren and go to volleyball and football games. Mary always
had a word of encouragement to give to others and was the first one
to speak up when needed to speak. She never missed a beat in missing
the Anderson Family Reunion and spending time with her siblings.
