Marvin Stearns began his adventure on this earth by being born as the 9th child out of 10 to Truman Cleaveland Stearns & Nellie Lee Davenport in Murphysboro, Illinois. He married his beloved wife, Myrtle Ransonette, in 1948 in New Orleans, and was blessed with their first born daughter, Diane Lee Stearns (9/26/49-1/12/18). All have preceded in death and welcomed him home with jubilation on Saturday April 28th.
Marvin lived an adventurous life serving in the Navy during both World War II and the Korean War. After leaving the military, he landed a job as a Mud Logging Engineer, with Bariod (now part of Haliburton). He then advanced to Well Logging Engineer and on into Sales. During his employment Marvin received recognition for creating the first Centrifuge, Blowout Preventer, and a clean oil system used by Bariod. His skills awarded him a life of travels around the world-including residing in London, England for 11 years. He retired as VP managing Drilling Fluid Cleaning and Surface Cuttings.
After retirement he-not only continued to travel, but also joined the VFW, Mason’s, American Legion, and the Cooties organizations. During his last 20 years Marvin proudly served on the VA Honor Guard, as Commander of VFW District 4 (1997-98), VA Hospital Judge Advocate, and was a devoted supporter of the VFW National Home for Children.
Marvin was a devout Christian. This faith guided him through a blessed life, with his greatest adventure being the patriarch for a wonderful family. He was the backbone and guiding light for all of his descendants. He is survived by his 2nd daughter Cynthia McCraw-Stearns, Son-in-law Bill McCraw; Grandchildren Ibrahim Sleiman, Alexander Sleiman, Inde Stearns, Anthony Sleiman, & Mariryan McCraw-Stearns; Great Grand Children Ashley, Harley, Jacob, Addison , Athena, Annalissa, Logan & Noah.
