Marvin “Butch” Wayne Owen Jr., 78, of Willis, Texas passed away in the morning of July 27, 2023, at home. He was born in Texas City, Texas on February 15, 1945, to parents Marvin Wayne Owen Sr. and Adele Marie Evans.
Butch graduated in 1963 from Cameron Parish High School in Cameron, Louisiana. He served in the US Navy during Vietnam for 6.5 years, aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) as a Fire Control Technician and achieve the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Following his service, Butch met Mary J. Lyons at Gilley’s Nightclub in Pasadena, Texas and were married on March 10, 1973. He worked at the Xerox Corporation in Houston for 42 years.
Butch was active in whatever activity his boys or grandchildren were involved in, scouts, sports, or education. He was a lifelong student taking classes most of his life at what is now Lone Star College. He became an avid painter and was involved in local art communities from the Woodlands to Galveston. His love of the water from living on the Gulf Coast, the Navy, and his sailing days influenced not only his paintings but his family as well. Butch was a proud lifelong Astros fan and never missed a game.
Butch was preceded in death by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary L. Owen; sons, Christopher and Steven Head; parents, Marvin and Adele Owen; sisters, Phyllis Hopson and Cynthia Owen; granddaughter, Jaculynn Head; grandson-in-law, Robert “Bubba” Siarski.
Butch is survived by his sons, Daniel Andrew Head and fiancé Dawn Jardine of Willis, and Jack B. Head III of Willis; grandchildren, Cayla Fiorella and husband Peter of Pinehurst, Ami Siarski of Huffman, Ashlee Gonzalez-Rios and husband Ody of Magnolia, Jonathan Head and wife Taylor of Magnolia, Austin Head and wife Samantha of Huntsville, Avery Head and husband David of Magnolia, Casey Medcalf and husband Zackery of Anderson, Robert Head of Manteo, Victoria Martian of Montgomery, Tyler Jardine of Willis, Owen Head of Manteo, Samuel Head of Manteo, and Madeline Head of Manteo; brothers, James and Debra Owen of Shireno, Daniel and Jenna Owen of Nacogdoches; daughters-in-law, Monica Cook of Plantersville, Jodie Head of Magnolia, and Kimberly Head of Manteo, North Carolina; and host of great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
