Mark Allan Peterson, loving husband, father of three, and friend to many, passed away Friday October 9, 2020 at the age of 66 due to complications arising from treatment for lung cancer. It was a brief battle with cancer as he was only recently diagnosed and was finishing his second week of treatment.
Mark was born April 24, 1954 to Martin Peterson and Margie Foster. He graduated from Del Valle High School near Austin. On February 20, 1981, he married Dolores Eaves Peterson. Together they raised three children: Marshall, Tony, and Annalisa. After attending two years of college in Austin, he hired out with the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1974 and was promoted to Locomotive Engineer several years later. After a 46-year career in Houston, he was planning to retire from the Union Pacific Railroad early next year. He was an active Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union member and served as a local chairman in Houston, Texas for several years. He was also a Master Mason in good standing with the local Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas Woodland No. 1157.
Outside of work, Mark enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and spoiling his two grandkids. Even with his crazy work schedule, he was still able to make friends with neighbors including the ones 3 streets over. When he was not chatting with neighbors, he enjoyed working around the yard and tending to his scrap metal collection in the back yard. He was avid fan of NASCAR, the Astros, Rockets, Texans, and University of Texas. He also enjoyed baking and always had baked sweets on hand. At Christmas, he was known for his homemade chocolate pecan pie and seafood gumbo. He also loved his pets and even suggested naming all five (3 cats and 2 dogs) as honorary pallbearers.
Mark was preceded in death by his father Martin and sister Ann. He is survived by his mother Margie, wife Dolores, three children: Marshall, Tony, and Annalisa, daughter-in-law Michelle, two grandchildren: Miles and Molly, his brother Doyle, his sister Terra. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In accordance with Mark’s wishes, a funeral service will not be held. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date. He will be cremated and laid to rest at Simpson Cemetery in Kokomo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you to donate to the Shiners Hospital for Children or your local animal shelter.
