Mariette Justine Moureau Garcia

Mariette Justine Moureau Garcia, 96, of Houston, Texas, passed into eternal life with the Lord on December 9, 2022. Mariette was an only child born to Louis Antoons and Eugenie Moureau on October 12, 1926 in Brussels, Belgium. Mariette was a World War II bride, marrying Gilbert Garcia, a sergeant in the Army Air Corp, on October 17, 1945, after which they settled in Gilbert’s hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, and subsequently moved to Houston in 1974. Mariette and Gilbert were married 55 years when Gilbert passed in 2000. They had four children, Marylise, Gilbert, Jr., Eva Christine “Chris”, and Mariette Reine.

Mariette was a faithful Catholic who worshiped the Lord, and a loving, caring, and devoted mother and wife who always put her family first. She was a fabulous cook, expert seamstress, and avid gardener. She worked as a bookkeeper for Sears Roebuck for many years until she retired in 1987 .

Mariette is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Mariette Garcia Arriaga; and her granddaughter, Emily Garcia. She is survived by her children, Marylise Garcia and husband, Bennie, Gilbert Garcia and wife Marianne, Eva Christine Anderson and husband, Richard, son-in-law, Fidencio Arriaga, grandchildren, Louis Garcia, Mark Garcia and wife, Heather, Sara Sabo, Justine Sabo, John Garcia and wife Sasha, Christina Barrientos and husband, Nick, great grandchildren, Erika Zarate, Ciara Rodriguez, Lexi Clemons, Gage Lyden, Cameron Clemons, Christopher Clemons, Peyton Lyden, Jackson Garcia, Nicholas Barrientos, and Emma Garcia, cousins, Natalie Spinks and husband, Hugh, and Bobby Garcia and wife, Sheila.

Visitation with the family began at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Texas 77080. The Rosary was recited at 11:15 a.m. and The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Msgr. Dan Scheel, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal followed in Houston National Cemetery.
