Maria de Jesus Serna

Maria Serna passed away on Sunday January 16, 2022. She was born in San Benito Texas on September 18, 1931. She is preceded in death by; her husband of 50+ years Francisco Serna, her eldest son Gabriel Serna and daughter Sylvia Hernandez. She is survived by; her children Delia Schnaubelt and Jim Clark, Concepcion and Moises Flores, Gloria Schmidt, Irma and Van Poorman, Fernando and Velma Serna, Leticia and Bryan Ellsworth, Ruben and Chela Serna, Rachael Castillo, Anna and Anthony Rodriquez, Diane Serna, Elvia and Matthew Nieto and siblings; Ramiro and Ignacio Rodriguez, Estella Rodriguez and Graciela and Mark Bonnet. Maria is also survived by numerous grand and great grandchildren.

Maria enjoyed travel to her childhood home in San Benito, TX with her husband to visit and care for family in the Rio Grande Valley. The family games of lotería as well as the occasional evening out to dance and socialize were always her preferred entertainment.

Maria retired from the Memorial Hermann System to care for family in the Houston area. Her grand and great grandchildren were always around "Little Grandma" aka "Beady Eyes" to absorb the love and attention that she uniquely showed to each child. Maria's smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

Maria's family would also like to extend a very special thank you to her daughter, Rachael Castillo, for providing care and support in Maria's final year.

A visitation with the family for Maria will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at The Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77024. Following the visitation with the family will be a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas.
