Maria Mercedes Hernández Iguala, 80 years, lived in Southwest Houston, Texas. She passed away on March 29, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
Merce and her twin sister Mari, were born to Heliodoro Hernández and Diomedes Iguala Hernández in the Province of Veraguas in the Republic of Panama. In her early 20's Merce moved to the capital of Panama. She was always a hard-working woman who touched numerous lives during her journey in this world. She made tons of friends and helped anyone in distress until the person could make it for themselves.
Merce was a kind, caring person concerned for her family and for her neighbors well- being all of the time. She left a footprint in every soul that she made contact with.
She worked at the Police Department in the Republic of Panama, where she met her husband and had her first child Ruben Smith Hernández, then in her second pregnancy she had twins of which Mercedes Anayansi Smith Hernández survived.
Merce started her Christian career in her 20s and endured all of her life like Apostle Paul said. She endured the good battle and made her race until the end. She has numerous spiritual children in Panama and in Houston, Texas as well. Merce would always speak about the gospel and Jesus sacrifice for us. She admired God’s creations, she loved her plants, garden, flowers, trees, domestic pets, birds, and her passion was her flowers.
Merce also mastered the kitchen, she was a Chef at home in Panama and here in Houston, Texas. Her cooking was superb, she did a meal in no time and applied her seasonings, will and love. Everything was done with love…..she was always pleased with others well-being over hers. She never strived for any recognition for her good deeds. Her hospitality was part of her nature.
Merce has a beautiful penmanship and taught her children, Grandchildren and Great Grand Children to write correctly. She had this internal teaching vocation so she volunteered to assist adults by teaching them to read and write.
Merce moved to Houston Texas since the year 2000 and has made numerous friends since then.
Merce taught the grandkids and great grand kids to pray, study Bible verses and prepared them for specials at church or Bible contests. She was also a Sunday school teacher for several years so she has seen her students grow into their teens. She was member of the Ladies choir and attended diverse training courses, choir classes, homilética y hermeutica, Sunday school teacher, and psychology.
Merce, a daughter, sister, mother, cook, teacher, gardener, caring friend, compassionate Christian, a child of God who has completed her work here on earth, is now resting and waiting for the sound of the trumpet.
