Maria R. Garcia, 67, born near Cameron, Texas to Natividad and Braulia Rojas, went to be with the Lord on February 23, 2015. Maria attended elementary school in San Gabriel and Thorndale, Texas. After moving to Houston, she attended Aldine High School and graduated from MacArthur High School in 1967 and completed her studies at Massey Business College.
Maria worked in the Oil and Gas sector with Plains Resources, Torch Energy, Nuevo Energy and EOG Resources, within the capacity of Engineer Reservoir Technician. Along with her analytical skills, Maria had integrity above reproach, was disciplined, dependable,and a real joy to work with and was loved by all of her co-workers. Maria was a good friend with a listening ear. She had a non-judgmental heart, an open mind, a dry sense of humor and un-wavering faith. Maria touched the lives of so many with her warmth and kindness. Maria met her loving husband, Mario Garcia, and married in 1992 and they were together until he passed away in 2011.
Maria always lived life with a positive attitude. Faith in God was her stronghold. Her favorite prayer of St. Francis: Make me an instrument of your peace was her mission. As a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Maria served in the Eucharistic ministry, Sacred Heart Society, treasurer and contributed in various activities. Maria was an active member of the OLG-Houston Guadalupana Society as communicator. She was also an active member of the Glory & Praise choir; Maria loved singing her heart out and looked forward to choir practices every Thursday evening. Maria’s greatest desire was to minister and witness her faith and help out where there was a need and supported various charities. Maria looked forward to the many gatherings with family and friends, whom she loved very dearly and treasured them all deep in her heart.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Gonzalo, Juan and Augustin Rojas. She is survived by her siblings: Lucia Rojas, Macaria Rojas, Anastasia R. Najera, Dolores Rojas, Janie Rojas, Hilario (Claudia Rojas); sister-in-law, Pauline Rojas; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. She will be dearly missed.
