Maria Isabel “Chavela” was preceded in death by her late husband Edmundo Araujo, her son Dagoberto Araujo, and daughter Maria Lourdes.
“Chavela” is survived by ten children, Edmundo, (Luz Maria), Eduardo, (Lani) Jose Luis (Diamantina) Maria Isabel (Mario), Virginia (Baldomero), Maria del Rocio, Elizabeth (Vince), Enrique (Donie), Luis Mariano (Lydia) and Lourdes Cecilia (Israel), 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, one surviving brother, Melchor Vazquez, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
Born in Silao, Guanajuato, México on December 10, 1927, she was one of seven siblings born to Victoria Navarro Hernandez and Hermilo Vazquez Gomar. “Chavela,” married Edmundo Araujo on October, 15 1947. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking traditional “Mole” to celebrate family birthdays each month, and carried many Mexican traditions including “Posadas”. She embraced an adventurous spirit and traveled abroad, including Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Jerusalem, France, Egypt, Qatar, Philippines, and many others. She was honored to have visited The Vatican in Rome to see Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Frances in 2018. She was devout Parishoner at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she was a member of The Guadalupanas. She was proud to sponsor two Novices, and two Catholic Priests, supporting their education. She was Vice President of Casa Guanajuato, and participated in several fundraisers with the Consulate of Mexico. She received a recognition from former Mexican President Vicente Fox, for becoming a successful entrepreneur in the U.S. Inspired by her love of traditional Mexican Music, she was the sole business owner of Discoteca del Bajio for many years. Chavela had so many admirable qualities, a heart of gold, and was immensely proud of her family. She lived life to the fullest, leaving behind an incredible legacy with beautiful memories. She will be truly missed by many.
