MARGUERITE “MARGY” HALL WHITE passed peacefully from life on Tuesday, the 3rd of November 2015. She was born the 25th of June 1919 in San Antonio, Texas and attended high school there at St. Mary’s Hall. She spent two years at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia where she majored in mathematics and played on the softball team. She returned to Texas and graduated from the University of Texas in 1941, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi women’s fraternity. At the university, she met the love of her life, Andrew Benjamin (Ben) White. They were married the 7th of March 1942, and shared much laughter over their 66 years together.
After their marriage, Ben left to serve in the navy, operating out of Pearl Harbor. Margy worked in San Antonio with lifelong friend Mildred Kerr and wrote for the Life Style section of the San Antonio newspaper. After the war, Margy and Ben moved to Houston where they made their home and raised their family. Margy was a member of the Altar Guild at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, the Houston Country Club, the Houston Chapter of the Junior League, and volunteered at the Houston Arboretum, where she used her green thumb to encourage the herb gardens to flourish. She was a marvelous cook, an avid reader, a skilled gardener, and a patient golfer. We will miss her laughter and sense of humor, and her love of family and friends. Margy could always find a silver lining no matter how dark the cloud.
Margy was preceded in death by her husband Ben; parents Marguerite and J. Croswell Hall; and brother Lt. Julian Hall who died in the service of his country. She is survived by her son Andy and his wife Judy of Los Alamos, New Mexico and beloved granddaughters Kristin Moore and husband Jack of Seattle, Washington and Kelly White of Fort Collins, Colorado.
Margy would like to thank Louise Gill for a lifetime of friendship, and her wonderful loving caregivers at the Hallmark.
A memorial service will be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 20th of November in the Chapel of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the parlor.
